* Sound Biblical Education, emphasizing the knowledge and practice of the Christian Faith.
* A deep and thorough study in six classic and well known Christian writings.
* Lifelong friendships with other students.
* Consistent and accountable relationships with VYG Leaders / Mentors.
* Personal and meaningful times of fellowship.
The Youth Group has always encouraged a loose form of discipleship and fellowship between students and its leaders, but the new Discipleship Program will provide an environment that fosters the growth of each students knowledge and practice of the Christian Faith both academically and spiritually. Each student, or pair of students, will be led by a VYG Leader / Mentor for one semester / course at a time.
The Discipleship Program is broken up into four classes. The first two classes (101, 201) will be a semester each (one year) while the second two classes (301, 401) will be two semesters each, (two years). A brief description of the classes are on the following page. These classes can be taken any semester, but not out of order. Registration for every available class will be made at the beginning of each school semester. Each class has a minimum number of hours of meeting with their mentor that must be met. These hours will consist of working through the specific course book and its study-guide with the Mentor. Besides the reading material and study questions, the Mentors will be available to provide prayer, wisdom, and encouragement for whatever the students needs are.
As this is a formal attempt to offer discipleship to our children, our desire is to see commitment from those who register, yet we do not want this be overwhelming. Students only need to commit for one class (semester) at a time, and progress in the Program at their own pace. While we understand that a students life is full of important events, we also believe that there is a cost of discipleship that will prove worthwhile in this life, and the next. As school teachers, sports coaches, and drama directors expect full commitment from their students, the VYG Discipleship Program would be no different. While we hope that any amount of fellowship between a student and VYG Mentor will be profitable, the course requirements must be met in full in order for your student to progress to the next course.
I encourage you to talk to your child about signing up. I believe this Program offers something that is hard to receive in other spheres of the students life.
